Leona Lewis has said that she would not shut herself off from the public after being punched in the face by a fan at a book signing. The 2006 X Factor winner said her security had been stepped up since the incident in October. Schizophrenic Peter Kowalczyk, 29, hit Leona as she signed copies of her autobiography Dreams in London. Her face swelled and she suffered whiplash.Kowalczyk, who had not taken his pills, admitted assault and was detained in hospital indefinitely.
Leona, 24, said: "It made me realise it's always important to be vigilant and aware of your surroundings - but I don't want to make myself too closed off. I'm a positive person. I don't like to dwell on negatives and I love what I'm doing. I put myself out there in front of people every day of my life. I'm in the public eye, and with that comes a certain amount of risk, but if you think about it too much you'd never leave the house.
